From todays A Word A Day comes this quote.

"What you get out depends on what you put in; and as the grandest mill in the world will not extract wheat-flour from peascods, so pages of formulae will not get a definite result out of loose data."

-Thomas Henry Huxley, biologist and writer (1825-1895)

Sounds like the sort of thing that Bush should know about. It is also something that the people who did the 'study' of the prison program that uses religion which showed that it was 'effective' should read.

Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] javasaurus and [livejournal.com profile] xpioti for pointing it out. There are comments on her journal.

For those who didn't read the article, the study compared the religious group that didn't drop out of the program to the control group. Not a fair comparison at all. If you compare both samples at the end, the religious intervention came out the same as the control (slightly worse but not statistically significantly IIRC).รด
