I was re-reading some books this weekend and this particular quote seemed rather appropriate to post in honor of Independence Day.
Heklatis in Alta by Mercedes Lackey
"And truth and trust are the means to which barbarism. When those in power intend to a buse that power, they look to an outside enemy in order to trick their people into pressing the means to their own abuse into the hands of the abusers. If an enemy does not exist, it will be manufactured, and all manner of horrors attributed to it, so th at anyone who demands truth and accountability is set upon as being unpatriotic. And so that, when someone said to be an enemy is found, there will be few questions asked about guilt or innocence, and many faces averted when he is taken away."
We celebrated the holiday weekend by having dinner with my Mom on Saturday, with Java's family on Sunday, trying to see fireworks in CP (post-poned) so we went to 6F and watched the fireworks there (they had some nice ones but it was not the best show I have seen), and rode Wild One about 7 times w/out getting off the coaster.
Laundry was done (Sunday and Monday), relaxation was had, and I got some more work done in the Pony Room. All in all a good and relaxing weekend.
