blueeowyn: (Echo head shot)
Well, we have been taking Ms. Echo out to graze on the line fairly frequently recently. She has been very good about it (most of the time) and has been better behaved every time. Last night she didn't do anything that was risky. She ate a bit, then looked around, then ate, then looked for quite awhile.

Dede has talked to the doctor. Her suspensory had been doing well enough to allow walking in-hand and start walking under tack (if we could get the idea of walk under tack from the get-go through her head). Then she got the joint infection and was back on stall rest. The infection seems to be completely healed up, no swelling as a result of the grazing (and occasional stupid jumping around). So, she has the green light to start being brought back into something like work.

It will start with 10 days of modified turn-out. The modifications will be that it is in the indoor ring (better footing) and her ambition will be toned down (a lot) by tranqs for the first several days. No, I do NOT believe in keeping her on the tranqs indefinately but if they can help her ease into turn-out without her natural (and predicable) reaction of YAHOO! RUN! BUCK! SLAM TO A STOP ON MY HEALING LEG! SPIN! CHARGE!, they are a GoodThing.

After the 10 days (or so) of turn-out, we will probably put her under tack and have her walk (in hand) with a rider (since she is used to trotting right off the bat when ridden, she will probably need someone at her head to begin with to explain the new world order).

My baby is finally getting better! WHEE!

I will probably have her use her old bridle to begin with (I need to find it and clean it next time I am up there). Then later, she will be changed into her brand-new bridle (same old bit since she likes it).

The new bridle being a gift at my (belated) "Bridle Shower" since I was completely stubborn and unavailable before the wedding. For all of you who participated in this a combination of thanks, hugs, and THBTBTBT. GRIN
