So, I was reading THAT site this morning and one of the things that popped up was what I would call a political ad. Specifically it was a presumably political group sharing a 'fact' to try to get people to be horrified and act what they think is appropriately.
The degree to which this 'ad' was nauseating and should be squashed like a bug cannot be overstated.
Text above a picture of the rings in question. "Wedding bands that were removed from Holocaust victims prior to be executed, 1945. Each ring represents a destroyed family. Never forget, Nazis tore down statues. Banned free speech. Blamed economic hardships on one group of people. Instituted gun control. Sound Familiar?"
The comments that I saw (and couldn't wade through them and didn't want to encourage the bots) were focused on:
1) By requiring vaccines in employees, Biden is blaming the economic woes of the US on anti-vaxxers. Well, yes he is because by refusing to be vaccinated, Covid-19 is continuing to spread at a high rate and is continuing to mutate at a high rate. As the unvaccinated people get sick they are stressing the hospitals and other care centers and may not have the $$$ to pay for it. Meanwhile as people become ill and stay home (we hope!) they aren't working and the economy is hurt. How much of the supply chain problem we are having now is due to people not being available to drive trucks because they retired rather than risk themselves to Covid, are ill with Covid, or refuse to be vaccinated or masked and thus refuse to work. Yes, there are a lot of drivers who don't fall into any of these groups, but the numbers in these groups are enough to affect things. Then you have people who can't/won't work for the same reasons in the production chain and ... Actually, I would blame a lot of the woes on anti-maskers and anti-vaxxers. I would also blame the woes on the stupid choices the politicians made in a lot of areas regarding taxation, wages, etc..
2) Look at how those horrible Liberals are destroying history that they claim to support.
Yes, I can see that some people would think that tearing down a statue of Jackson would be destroying history. However, most history loving people would love to see the statue in a museum with the ACTUAL history about it displayed (including anything about segregation in the neighborhood, the rise of the love of the confederacy and worship of the heroes as the country began to heal from the war). I would love to have the history of the Confederate States of America much more broadly taught including the fact that what they did was treason to the United States of America. I would also like to have it pointed out that as much as the parents talk about the whole thing being a mix of State's Rights and War of Northern Aggression, that it was about slavery and attacking the north.
3) Banned Free Speech
It has long been illegal to say things in situations that will get people hurt or killed. Yelling FIRE in a theater is not legal. Many of the incite to riot things I believe should be treated the same way. I do see that the Hate Speech rules can be viewed as not Free Speech, however, the safety of the people being hated is a real thing and they are at risk when the hate becomes strong enough (Matthew Shepherd for example).
4) Instituted Gun Controls
I wish we could. I would be VERY happy to see the Right to Bear Arms be based on showing that you understand how to safely handle a gun, how to safely transport a gun, and make sure you aren't likely to go out and do something horrible with your gun. Responsible gun owners would keep their guns and the "My Gun Says Do Things My Way" people and the "My gun is my identity" people stop being allowed to terrorize the rest of us. BTW, I put a lot of the Military Issue SWAT Team stuff in the same box of we don't need it and having it is hurting our country.
The fact that this group is using the Holocaust to warn the world against liberal actions when it is VERY clear to me that they are using the same tactics as Hitler et al. is infuriating and exhausting.
