So, it was COLD this weekend and the clinic at the farm was iffy. So, I put on some ratty clothes and headed to MAD to help set build. I ended up not using any power tools but I did help build the partitions for the greenroom and get the set up.
Then home to finish the soup (I had made a roast on Thursday when barn got weathered out and had also stewed some bones). Lots of cutting of meat, throwing in veggies and spices and tincture of time ... the cinnamon worked well. I also threw together (at Java's request) a pan of stuff for dinner. Left over boiled potatoes, green beans, tomatoes and cubed beef make a pretty tasty supper. The left over apple crisp was tasty too.
Sunday saw me back at the set with ratty clothes and painting. It is an interesting task to paint railings that are very different and attempt to have them come out looking similar. Most of the material was wood painted white, one batch was white plastic. VERY different surfaces for painting onto (esp. if you are trying for an effect ... in this case woodgrain). It came out looking pretty spiffy.
Then home to finish cleaning the house and get set up for the Super Bowl. We had Mom & Pete over (Java's parents couldn't make it) with soup and lots of munchies (including Sissy Sauce from our trip to Texas in 2005). I had chosen to root for the Bears (I don't have a particularly strong feeling about either team) so I 'lost'. I unfortunately missed a lot of the first quarter tending the soup (reheating the huge pot in a reasonable amount of time requires a LOT of stirring) and that was where a lot of the fun was. It was truly the battle of the fumbles. The other minor annoyance was that Pete didn't understand that I am one of those weird people who mostly watch the commercials and there is a football game to break them up. Oh well, I'll spend some time soon watching them on the web.
