Catching Up
Jan. 12th, 2005 11:52 amI'm waiting for a query to run on the other computer so I figured I could put a catching up entry.
Saturday I spent sleeping in (Hmmmmm .... sleeeeep), then watching some stuff with Java then GoingBarn with Mom. We saw 2 lessons and some interesting opinions from one of the horses (it is amazing how athletic they can be at times). Visited with Ms. Echo (she had the day off), visited with Peter (who said Echo is doing really well), groomed Echo, and overall had a nice relaxing day. I didn't make it to EE but I will go this Saturday instead.
Saturday evening was quiet.
Sunday morning I went to work for several hours to work on a server (the server is up but I don't have it serving stuff yet). Then it was run home, change, get picked up and head out for a gig. The gig went well; feeding the musicians happened (and making sure they had time to eat also happened ... GoMe); the crowd seemed to really enjoy watching the dancing (clapping along with the music when we danced). I got a chance to visit with some people I don't see very often so overall a good gig. Teasing the H and the E while en route was muchly enjoyable. I found out later that the coordinator for this will be taking a hiatus for a few years to finish a degree (2 years? Bwa Hah Hah ... unless she is at the writing thesis and no other job stage).
Monday I went to Westminster, to McDaniel college for a meeting. That shot most of the day (got back to the office around 2:30) but the meeting was very productive and the drive was very pretty.
Work will be rather busy for the next several weeks (the word insane comes to mind) and pretty busy for the next several months. I think at some level we are all waiting with anxiety to see what happens with the legislature (and in my case wondering when Ehrlich will rescind his increased funding idea ... not if ... when).
Dance practice last night was a LOT of fun. Early on, we had a single musician and you could really hear how well in synch with each other (and the music) the dancers we had there were. It is So wonderful to be able to dance knowing that everyone is following the same beat. There is a certain completeness and fulfillment that I feel when music and dance are together and expressing more than the sum of the parts. It has, unfortunately, been rare recently for that feeling to occur. That is why I love to dance in a group.
Later we had more musicians so it was harder to hear the dancers but since they were together, it was still easier for the dancers to stay together. Given that we just had a gig, we had a playful visitor that we don't get see very often, and that most of us who were there are solid on most of the dances, we could get a bit silly (though I guess I shouldn't have started the poke-the-musician game).
Lots of silliness and play WITHOUT losing the rhythm or the pattern of the dance (well at least most of the time) and without picking up bad habits.
Thank you to the musicians who played so well and to the dancers who danced. It was a joyous evening for me. We should do it again soon. Really.
