Happy New Year
Jan. 5th, 2004 05:12 pmHaving had a lot of group interaction, still being not real healthy, and feeling like I should entertain the cats I am sitting, I asked Chris if he would be OK with not going out for New Year's Eve and just have a couple of friends over. I needed a little quiet time. Considering I started contacting people, I was pleasantly surprised to find that 2 people could make it. So, it was four of us playing games, watching Finding Nemo then Cirque du Soliel until the wee sma's. We did watch the ball drop and toast with sparkling cidar (non-alcoholic). They left at around 4, I think I was in bed at around 5am.
xpioti picked up some models I had been holding for her and dropped off some she had for me, much drooling ensued.
New Year's Day I slept in until getting a call from a friend (at 10:30a). I spent some time puttering around, entertaining the cats, cleaning up from the gathering (not that there was much to clean). Chris & I watched most of the Gater Bowl (I felt sorry for the WV team, I wanted it to be a close game) and made cookies. Then we worked on getting ourselves together (not very successfully) and got some food and headed to campus. I had to get some emails printed before Friday morning. By the time we were ready to head out, it was around 10:00 and getting to
queenmaggiemd's was not really an option since we both had to work Friday morning.
Friday I got up, headed to campus (which was closed), did the pick-up at Chesapeake, came to the office and did what needed to be done, read LJ for about 5 minutes then headed downtown.
Xi and I met at Natural History and wandered through the Mammal Hall (wonderful job of getting expressions and movement in those displays), avoided stepping on any children (even the ones who really needed it) or parents (ditto). We then wandered to American History, grabbed food, and did the Transportation Exhibit (or as much as we could see before being kicked out); wonderfully done exhibit, I want to go back. Then back to Natural History for the IMAX movie "The Young Black Stallion" which managed to almost always use the correct gender animal (or at least not make it obvious when they didn't). Nice scenery. GRIN. Back home and play with new toys to make a cake (we got 2 f o od processors, 1 milk-shake maker, and a mixer).
Saturday - ice and decorate the cake then head to my friends house for their seasonal party (I asked what sort of greeting to put on the cake and was told it was a seasonal party ... they had noticed the lack of references at the wedding). Chris had other stuff to do, so I went alone. It was kind of interesting, when I got there, I knew 3 people there (4 others made it that I knew). Most of the people are their friends from college and other intersecting groups. I was honored to be invited to such a select group. I got to be involved in lots of interesting discussions on medical school, religion, teaching thereof, theatre, government, food, culture, and dietary restrictions. Lots of food, laughter, and hugs..
