I came up with the idea even before I really got started in LJ and with the 1st year of LJ being such a big one for me, I started doing Year X in LJ and enjoy it. However, I have found that getting it done at my LJ anniversary (August) is challenging. I have the earlier ones (such as they are) under my memories ... they will become year entries (which will make coaster things much simpler and more logical).
