Weekend (et al.) Wrap-Up
I've been pretty quiet recently and fairly busy. So, a quick catch-up.
Housework
Java and I are slowly but surely trying to create order out of the chaos that is the house. Some of the stuff that went on last year got us a bit behind in some of the organization of the house and that let to some serious disorder in places. Needing to move stuff Right Now for various reasons didn't help. So, we have spent some time (and will continue doing so) working on specific rooms to get them re-organized and hopefully we can keep them organized. The cats are sooo helpful with this. *sigh* Java has spent a lot of time working on the siding (cleaning it) and we are so looking forward to re-staining the deck ... again ... for the 3rd time since we bought the house in Spring of 2003. *sigh* The 5 year stain isn't (or at least not when applied by the person who did it the last time).
However, we have gotten to see some movies. Reviews/reactions are still pending on the ones we saw on vacation (Shrek, PotC, Georgia Rules, The Invisible) and since we got back (Waitress, Fantastic Four). We are also working through the Ocean's DVDs in hopes of catching Ocean's 13 soon. Others to maybe see are Ratatoille (Pixar!), Nancy Drew, Evan Almighty, and Gracie. I also hope (wish?) to see the Harry Potter movies before the next one comes out (I am also re-reading the books, currently just started Goblet).
The Moss Roses volunteered to come back and are very happy and cheerful. It looks like the Coriopsis (sp?) didn't survive another year (sigh). We put some Creeping Jenny in under the damaged tree and that looks quite happy. The snapdragons are doing reasonably well. Some of the marigolds look ok (but not great), some are missing all their leaves but the leaves aren't on the ground, I think something is snacking. The Banana pepper plant is quite happy, the planter tomatoes have plans to take over the world (lush doesn't even begin to describe them); the other tomatoes are OK. The other flowers (one is Million Bells, I forget the name of the other) are doing quite well.
Zyozia - how thy very name is horrific. We bought the house several years ago it had some Zyozia Grass which we didn't like but had other fish to fry. Boy was THAT a mistake. Java did manage to kill it (or at least most of it) but even though it is dead (and crunchy) it won't leave. He runs the tiller over it and we still pull up carpets of it, this stuff makes what I think of as Berber carpet look thin and easy to cut through. *UGH* It is a PAIN to deal with. We are currently taking a break from dealing with it (Java had that lump removed and is NOT to use the tiller until at least a week post surgery). We have planted new grass seed on the section that we have 'cleared' (or at least made enough of a dent in the old grass that the seeds have a fighting chance of finding dirt) and hope it grows. Watering a rectangular section with a tree in the middle is challenging.
I have been getting to the barn 1-2 times a week which is good. Due to the farrier running behind schedule; Echo was seriously overdue on her hooves so got some time off (when the feet get to a certain point, working becomes a little too risky). However, her toes are in fine shape now. C. has cantered her under saddle and it wasn't nearly as ugly as she was worried about (Echo's canter on the line is UGLY). Echo is developing some serious muscles on her shoulders (need to get some more on her rump now). I worked her on the line (in full tack) last night and she was quite good. I just hope she doesn't catch anything (the horse in the next stall is 'off'). Clean-up after the storm is still continuing (Rooh is in a double stall with Jessie because it is easier that way) but the broodies are back out in their field (with run in sheds with a sun-shed instead of stalls with roof but we'll take it, they can get out of the sun when they need to).
