LOVE ACTUALLY - Nov. 7, 2003
Hugh Grant, Alan Rickman, Emma Thompson, Laura Linney, Colin Firth
Teaming up again with the writer and producers who brought the world Four Weddings and a Funeral, Bridget Jones's Diary and Notting Hill, Hugh Grant is looking to recapture the same critical acclaim with this new romantic comedy. The British star is just one ingredient in this ensemble holiday fable that tells 10 interweaving, touching and romantic stories that lead up to one climactic Christmas Eve finish.
ANYTHING BUT LOVE - November 7, 2003
Isabel Rose, Andrew McCarthy, Cameron Bancroft, Eartha Kitt, Peter Appel
This homage to the golden era of 1950s Technicolor musicals tells the story of a cabaret singer, Billie Golden (Rose), living with her mother (Korey) in Queens who aspires to get out of the "airport circuit" (she sings at a dingy lounge at JFK Airport). Meanwhile, Billie is also trying to choose between two men who represent different paths her life could take next: a corporate attorney (Bancroft) she knew in high school, who could provide her with money and security; or her piano teacher (McCarthy) who doesn't have much money but understands her passion for music. In addition to the songs Billie performs on stage, there are also occasional musical numbers that represent Billie's daydream fantasies.
MASTER & COMMANDER - November 14, 2003
Action/Adventure & Drama
Lucky Jack Aubrey (Russell Crowe) is the Navy's greatest fighting captain. The ship, the Surprise, is suddenly attacked by a superior enemy. With the Surprise badly damaged and much of his crew injured, Aubrey is torn between duty and friendship as he sets sail in a high-stakes chase across two oceans, to the far side of the world, to intercept and capture their foe. It's a mission that can decide the fate of a nation – or destroy Lucky Jack and his crew. The film is based on the narrative outline of the tenth book in Patrick O'Brian's legendary "Aubrey/Maturin" series of high seas novels about the British navy during the Napoleonic Wars.

THE HAUNTED MANSION - November 26, 2003

The next movie in Disney's homegrown genre of movies based on theme park rides features Eddie Murphy as a neglectful, workaholic father who visits a haunted house with his family during a job interview. After a few bumps in the night -- characters which you may recognize from your own "Haunted Mansion" experiences at Disneyland or Disneyworld -- Murphy meets a ghost who teaches him a lesson about the importance of the family.

Tom Cruise, Ken Watanabe, Billy Connolly, Tony Goldwyn, Seizo Fukomoto
Last seen running from the law in the futuristic Minority Report, Tom Cruise journeys back to 1870s Japan to train the troops of the emperor Meiji, who no longer wants to rely on samurai warriors to protect his territories. But when Cruise is captured by the banished samurai, he learns about their code of honor and has a crisis of conscience as the emperor's new army prepares to wipe them out. "It's not a historical picture," Cruise tells ET. "It's more dealing with and honoring the spirit of the samurai."

PETER PAN - December 25, 2003
Jeremy Sumpter, Jason Isaacs, Lynn Redgrave, Ludivine Sagnier, Olivia Williams
The age-old story of the boy who won't age flies back to the big-screen just in time for Christmas. The first contemporary live-action version of the century-old story sticks closely to the original template, unlike Steven Spielberg's high-concept Hook a few years back, and eschews star power to allow newcomers and production design to shine. For those who grew up in a broom closet, the story revolves around young English siblings who are taken by Peter Pan (Jeremy Sumpter of Frailty) to the mythical Neverland.
THE YOUNG BLACK STALLION - December 25, 2003 - IMAX
Biama Tamimi, Patrick Elyas, Richard Romanus
Galloping into theaters exclusively on IMAX screens, this long-awaited prequel takes viewers to Arabia for the early adventures of the beloved black stallion. When Tom gets an offer to coach a Big Ten football team and Mary's long-in-the-works book gets published, the clan moves to the big city, and subsequently comes apart at the seams due to mom and dad's increased workload.

HIDALGO - March 5, 2004
Viggo Mortensen, Omar Sharif, Zuleikha Robinson, Louise Lombard, Said Taghaoui
Western and Action/Adventure
Based on the true story of the greatest long-distance horse race ever run, "Hidalgo" is an epic action-adventure and one man’s journey of personal redemption. Held yearly for centuries, the Ocean of Fire — a 3,000 mile survival race across the Arabian Desert — was a challenge restricted to the finest Arabian horses ever bred, the purest and noblest lines, owned by the greatest royal families. In 1890, a wealthy Sheik invited an American and his horse to enter the race for the first time. Frank T. Hopkins (Viggo Mortensen) was a cowboy and dispatch rider for the US cavalry who had once been billed as the greatest rider the West had ever known. The Sheik (Omar Sharif) would put this claim to the test, pitting the American cowboy and his mustang, Hidalgo, against the world’s greatest Arabian horses and Bedouin riders—some of whom were determined to prevent the foreigner from finishing the race. For Frank, the Ocean of Fire becomes not only a matter of pride and honor, but a race for his very survival as he and his horse, Hidalgo, attempt the impossible.

STAR WARS EPISODE III - May 25th, 2005 (the 28th an of the release of Star Wars)
Probably much to the delight of fans of the original trilogy, StarWars.com has announced that Peter Mayhew has officially signed on to reprise his role as Chewbacca the Wookie. Since "Chewie" was over 200 years old in the original trilogy, it's easy for him to also fit into this movie. So... might this mean we might finally get a visit to the Wookie home world?
It may be bad, but I gotta see it.
CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY Release Date: June, 2005 (wide)
Johnny Depp (Willy Wonka) Director: Tim Burton
Based Upon: The 1964 novel of the same title by Roald Dahl. This is not a direct remake of the 1971 film, Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory, starring Gene Wilder, although both movies are obviously based on the same book. This film is aiming to be more faithful to the original book than Willy Wonka. One expected change is that this probably won't be a musical.

Cast Notes: The James Bond series always has lots of fun casting rumors as each new film is developed (with only about 10% proving accurate), and this one has already proven to be no different. I don't keep track of all of them (British tabloids are too creative and prolific!), but the most heavily reported (and high profile) name thus far has been... former U.S. president Bill Clinton!
HARRY POTTER AND THE GOBLET OF FIRE - November 2005 (tenative)
There are rumors that this will be filmed as 1 movie and released as two (like Lord of the Rings or the Matrix sequels). No formal announcement has been made. When Warner Bros. First acquired rights to produce 'Harry Potter' movies from Rowling, they only bought the first four, this being the last of that deal.
HITCHHIKERS GUIDE TO THE GALAXY - TBA 2005 (wide)
One actor who was consistently mentioned by author Douglas Adams as a possibility is Hugh Laurie (Stuart Little) as Arthur Dent. Jay Roach recently told Popcorn that he would also like to see Jim Carrey play Zaphod Beeblebrox, the wacky two-headed politician.

HARRY POTTER AND THE ORDER OF THE PHOENIX - June 2007 (tentative)
Like Goblet, this one may be split, but the aging of the kids is problematic with that. When the book was released, a Warner Brothers spokesperson announced that the release target was 4 years from [now] which is summer 2007. The studio is timing the movies so that they are 15-18 months apart which would have #6 released Nov. 2008 and the final movie to be #7 in June 2010. WB has not yet exercised their right to a first look on the last 3 books but it is expected that they will. The 3 leads will be 15-17 when playing 15 year olds, 17-19 when playing 16 (at the beginning of the final book).
