Weekend Wrap Up
Aug. 9th, 2004 12:40 pmFriday
Didn't do anything real exciting. We did some shopping at the book store that is closing (50% off), dinner, and I think some TV. I went to bed early (still not feeling top of the world). Moved some BFest goodies upstairs.
Saturday
Slept in (oh what a wonderful feeling). Java got up and headed to site. I helped a friend move stuff into storage in our basement, watched some DVDs, and did 3 loads of laundry, moved the rest of the BFest goodies upstairs. Then it was time to get ready for the MS fundraiser.
The drive to the ball went fairly well and we got a reasonable parking space. I got to wear some stuff I don't normally wear (medieval garb, circlet, necklace and some rings) so that was cool (I got a complement on how the skirt flowed). As I figured, I did know a lot of the performers and some of the participants. The raffle set up was brilliant. 4 raffles over the course of the night and you bought your tickets and put them in bags for the items you wanted. Each item had its own bag and pre-determined drawing time. I won a candle-holder with candle.
Several people that I don't usually get to perform with were there (
faireraven and
xpioti) as well as some that I just don't see that often (Pyratelady, Queenmaggie, BadMagic). Lots of joking around with friends ensued. Tee Hee! (BTW, QM your hubby got some complements from some of my friends)
The performance part of the night went fairly well. We were experimenting with teaching dances that we would usually do as performance (if we did them at all). Some of it went OK, some was a bit of a beautiful train wreck, but the participants seemed to usually enjoy it (though some seemed frustrated). The 2 performance dances went quite well (except for people thinking that Prince William was a teaching dance until it was explained to them). I have already come up with things we can do in the future to make it work out better.
It was wonderful having Xpioti, Faireraven, Silmaril, and Kor playing together. I think it helped a LOT that three of them got to rehearse on Thursday (Kor had a excellent excuse for not being there but since he and Silmaril play together, she was able to fill him in on the drive up). It was also fun sitting with them (well, not with Faireraven since she was rather busy).
QM makes a wonderful fairy and was properly annoyed with her Oberon (or more to the point, lack thereof). I was VERY glad that my name wasn't Oberon. PHEW! Finished the night with Scotland (with S). Got home at around 2:00 and was ready for sleep by 2:30.
I heard today that the dinner raised $4500 for MS research. Note to self, find out who is walking where so we can put in our donation for the challenge walk (maybe for a certain person's upcoming birthday????) or just to the society.
Sunday
Sat in on a fun rehearsal (with permission). I am learning a lot about directing. I really want to try it sometime soonish. I just need to find the right venue and show to start with. Drooled over a friend's pictures of her cruise, grabbed lunch with Java then left him for his other rehearsal and headed to the barn.
Got to visit with Echo who had already been out so I worked on grooming her (which she mostly highly approved of), doing her front feet (which she was good about), and feeding her (much approval there). Got to watch Dede do an into to lunging lesson with Mr. Smiles who was quite good to the left and quite clueless at first about going to the right. Poor confused pony.
Then off to home, shower, look up some music to help with a show at fest (found sheet music for a piece they didn't have music for) and out to dinner (YUM RIBS ... ON SALE STILL!), home and sleep.
